Fukushima Hanabi Taikai

Approximately 10,000 fireworks will light up the sky.

Date: Saturday, July 27
Time: 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
In case of severe weather, the event will be postponed to the following day.

As the first major summer festival in Fukushima this year, the Fukushima Hanabi Taikai aims to inspire strength and courage through a breathtaking display themed “Beautiful Harmony.” A wide variety of fireworks will paint the night sky, symbolizing unity and hope for a brighter future for everyone in Fukushima.

Enjoy the dynamic and enchanting spectacle of light and sound. Highlights include the world’s largest Shakudama (approximately 120 cm / 47 inches in diameter) and magnificent Starmines that fill the sky in rapid succession.

The program will also feature Engi Hanabi (message fireworks), sent up with wishes for protection from misfortune and for good fortune in the year ahead.

Miharu no Sato Natsu Matsuri 2019

(Miharu Town Summer Festival – Miharu Machi)

Date: Sunday, July 28

The annual Miharu no Sato Natsu Matsuri will be held at Denen Seikatsu-kan in Miharu no Sato.

A variety of special events are planned throughout the day, including the ever-popular hand-catching char experience for children, singing and dancing performances by local residents, a powerful Japanese taiko drum show, gymnastics performances, an orchestra, and live music.

Festival food stalls will also be set up, offering freshly prepared dishes—from crispy fried favorites to savory grilled specialties.

In the evening, enjoy a beautiful fireworks display lighting up the sky above Sakura Lake, bringing the summer festival to a spectacular close.

Nishi Ikka-son Nippashi-gawa Kawa no Saiten

The Nippashi River “Kawa no Saiten” is held jointly by Kitakata City, Aizu-Wakamatsu City, and Yugawa Village. This magnificent annual fireworks display once again promises to light up the summer night sky of the Aizu region.

As one of the highlight events of the “Kura no Machi” Kitakata Festival, the program features a wide variety of fireworks, including Message Fireworks, creative Starmines synchronized to music, and special Japan–China collaborative fireworks, creating a colorful and dynamic spectacle along the riverside.

Ikada Kudari Taikai (Rafting Competition)

The daytime highlight of the festival is the Rafting Competition, featuring two exciting categories:

  • Time Trial Racing Division – Teams race down the river on handmade rafts.

  • Performance Division – Participants compete with creatively decorated rafts and humorous costumes.

Additional fun events include an Ice Cream Eating Contest, Hand-Catching Char Competition, Bicycle “Leg Power” Show-Off Contest, Canoeing Experience, and more—making it a full day of summer entertainment for all ages.

Soma Nomaoi Hi no Matsuri

(Soma Wild Horse Chase “Fire Festival” – Odaka-ku, Minamisoma City)

Time: 7:20 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
In case of severe weather, the event will be postponed to Saturday, August 31.

The Hi no Matsuri (Fire Festival) originated from a long-standing local custom. After the second day of events during the three-day Soma Nomaoi, local residents would see off the warriors and mikoshi bearers returning from Hibari-ga-Hara Saijo-chi.

They lined the roads with lanterns and torches, offering respect and prayers for the participants’ safe return home.

Today, the festival recreates this powerful tradition. Around 2,000 bonfires are lit near the fireworks site, and approximately 4,000 fireworks—including impressive Ni-shaku Dama (about 60 cm / 23 inches in diameter) and music-synchronized fireworks—illuminate the night sky, creating a dramatic and unforgettable spectacle of fire and light.

Fukuyama Yume Hanabi

Yume Hanabi is an annual summer tradition that brilliantly colors the night sky over Koriyama. During the day, visitors can enjoy special events such as a fun-filled Kids Festival and a Grand Raffle Draw.

As the grand finale, the fireworks show delivers an unforgettable spectacle featuring powerful Shakudama with deep, resonating booms and creative fireworks synchronized to music—bringing the summer celebration to an exciting close.

The Iwaki Hanabi Taikai is one of the most spectacular summer fireworks festivals in Fukushima. Approximately 10,000 fireworks are set off in a grand display over the port area, creating a breathtaking scene against the shimmering night view of the harbor.

A major highlight of this event is the creative fireworks show, precisely synchronized to the latest hit songs as well as nostalgic movie soundtracks. Each launch is carefully programmed down to the second, creating a powerful fusion of music, color, and explosive rhythm.

With the dramatic seaside backdrop and massive fireworks blooming overhead, this show delivers both elegance and overwhelming intensity — a summer night experience you won’t forget.

The Shirakawa Shimin Nōryō Fireworks Show is a spectacular summer tradition. Around 5,200 explosive shells will be launched from Shiroyama Park, illuminating the night sky and beautifully highlighting Shirakawa Komine Castle. The fireworks can be enjoyed from multiple locations throughout the town, offering breathtaking views for visitors.

Note: Entry into Shiroyama Park is not permitted for viewing the fireworks.

The Inawashiro Hanabi Taikai is a spectacular summer festival where about 3,000 fireworks are launched in collaboration with themed music, creating a vibrant and dynamic night sky over Inawashiro.

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the festival has carried annual themes aimed at inspiring hope and joy, especially for children.

During the day, visitors can enjoy food stalls and special events, including the popular Soreike! Anpanman Show, making it a perfect family-friendly festival.

The Asakano Natsu Matsuri Hanabi Taikai is held at Koriyama Culture Park, providing a spacious and comfortable venue ideal for families. During the festival, numerous food stalls and vendors line the park, creating a lively summer atmosphere.

Fireworks are launched from the center of a rice field area, allowing spectators in the park to enjoy dazzling displays from 360-degree views, making it a truly immersive summer night experience.

Fukushima’s Oldest Memorial Fireworks Show

The Asakawa no Hanabi is a historic ancestor worship fireworks show, held every year on August 16 since the Edo period, making it the oldest fireworks festival in Fukushima Prefecture.

The display includes a variety of spectacular fireworks, such as:

  • Shaku-dama – the world’s largest explosive shell (about 120 cm / 47 in)

  • Ni-shaku-dama – approximately 60 cm / 23 in explosive shell

  • Dai-karakuri (Great Trick) – Asakawa’s specialty

  • Jirai-bi (Land Mine Fireworks) – extremely dynamic and explosive

The highlight of the show is Jirai-bi, exploding close to the slope of Shiroyama, towering above the town. The thrilling proximity and explosive power make it a must-see event—you can truly feel the raw energy and dynamism of the festival firsthand.

The Sukagawa-shi Shakadō-gawa Hanabi Taikai is one of the biggest fireworks shows in Fukushima Prefecture. A wide variety of spectacular fireworks are launched, creating an unforgettable night sky.

  • Shakudama Collaboration by famous pyrotechnists
