1 Summer Hotspot & Dating Spot:
Only a 20-minute drive from central Koriyama City
Ouse Park Central Greens
Voted the 1 dating spot by Style Koriyama readers, couples often visit the park to ring the Ouse Bell pictured here. Legend says that ringing the bell can increase your chances of finding and falling in love. The park also features a central square with a tower offering stunning views of the surrounding Asaka Plains and gardens.

Visitors to the park’s greenhouse can catch a glimpse of the Oomurasaki Butterfly, a species often regarded as a symbolic creature in Japan. The greenhouse is divided into several sections, but we especially recommend not missing the cactus area, which features a wide variety of cacti rarely found elsewhere in the country.

This area is also home to the Kinshachi Cactus, known as the largest cactus in Japan. The spacious park is open year-round, offering visitors beautiful seasonal views as different plants come into bloom throughout the year.

4 Summer Hotspot & Dating Area
60 minutes drive from central Koriyama City
Nunobiki Plateau

As I climbed the winding roads, I arrived at Nunobiki Plateau, where the breeze feels wonderfully refreshing. This area is also known as the origin of the cloth radish, and towering windmills—some reaching 100 meters—add a dramatic touch to the landscape.
Although I was a little nervous at the thought of seeing bears, the breathtaking views of Mount Bandai and Lake Inawashiro quickly took my mind off it. From August to early September, fields of sunflowers and cosmos flowers spread across the plateau like something out of a fairytale.
Nunobiki Plateau is truly the best spot to enjoy panoramic views of Lake Inawashiro and Mount Bandai.

● Tips: (should you encounter a bear)
When visiting areas where bears may be present, it’s wise to make your presence known—wear something that jingles, like a bell or whistle, or even carry a small radio. Never leave behind food or leftovers, as bears have an incredible sense of smell and are often looking for a meal. Keeping these precautions in mind will help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
● If you encounter a bear … don’t run! Stay calm and move slowly.
Also, avoid sudden movements and loud voices. If you encounter a bear at close range, do not make eye contact and slowly walk backward to put distance between you and the animal. Never turn and run, as this can provoke the bear. If you see a small bear, assume that a larger one may be nearby and leave the area immediately.
Final Impressions of the trip
“This was my first experience horseback riding! I had so much fun visiting animals we don’t usually see in daily life, all while enjoying nature with my family. The local shops we stopped at were delicious, and exploring the natural beauty of Nunobiki Plateau and Goshiki-numa was truly inspiring.
Next time, I hope to take a peaceful boat cruise on the lake to enjoy the scenery from the water’s perspective. Overall, it was a fun day and a refreshing change from the everyday routine.
